November 11th Veterans Day
In light of our many Veterans, organizations have sought to honor their tribute and sacrifice through scholarships. After the attack on 9/11, many companies and private organizations decided to create scholarship funds in honor of the children and the families of victims from September 11th. The scholarships have not all expired and in fact, continue to offer funding so long as the families and children of the victims remain of age to attend college. The criteria for some of the September 11th Scholarships has been updated to include the families and children of anyone who was a victim of a terrorist attack, a national emergency, or a disaster.
In light of that, there are many September 11th Scholarships which continue to take donations from outside sources to fund additional September 11th Scholarships for the families and children of victims. The most popular of the September 11th Scholarships is the Needham 9/11 scholarship fund. This fund was created after September eleventh to aid the children of victims who survived the tragedies. The September 11th Scholarships from the Needham fund are distributed based upon need as well as merit and academics. The applications are accepted regularly and there is no cut off date. However, the approval for one of these September 11th Scholarships is generally at the beginning of each school year or each semester.
Many people will be unable to forget the events which took place on September eleventh. Many who were involved in the financial services community will be forever reminded of lost friends, lost relatives, and lost colleagues who were working in the World Trade Center when it collapsed. The shock of that tragic time and day has translated and evolved over the passing months into motivation to rebuild not just the city but the spirit of New York and the United States. The combined nationalism which has resolved offers a firm dedication to helping those involved in any manner possible, including offering September 11th Scholarships to the children of victims.
In light of the tragedy, Needham & Company, LLC was the first to establish the heroes’ scholarship fund to benefit the children of those whose lives were lost. The fund was dedicated to ensuring that each of the children of the victims was guaranteed the opportunity for college-level and private secondary education. The funds are awarded based upon merit, financial need, community involvement, civic involvement, as well as scholastic abilities. Each case is reviewed and then the funds allocated. The funds are given to households which have a gross income below one hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars. The September 11th Scholarships are awarded to individuals who have already been accepted to private high schools, universities, or colleges.
Individuals or corporations who want to donate to the Needham 9/11 & Heroes Scholarship Fund can rest assured knowing that each and every recipient is deserving of the funds. After the year 2008, the eligibility expanded to include spouses as well as children of those permanently disabled rescue workers as well as the survivors of military personnel who were killed or permanently disabled because of the “war on terror”.
