Born After A Car Accident – Traumatic Brain Injured Child Finally Receives Support
Every mother’s fear became a reality last year for a young woman in her third trimester of pregnancy.
The expectant mother was involved in a terrible hit and run car accident at a busy city intersection… The crash not only caused severe injury and trauma to the mother’s own body, but also to her unborn child.
Her daughter, who we will refer to as Kate, was born 3 weeks prematurely and suffered numerous complications as a result of the accident (such as a Traumatic Brain Injury or TBI). Kate spent months in the hospital, with her mother by her side, as doctor’s worked towards treating her severe cardiac, pulmonary, respiratory, sensory, and neurological disorders. Once Kate was stable enough to be brought home, the single mother spent every moment tending to her daughter’s growing medical needs.
As years passed, and Kate began to grow, her mother cared for her the best she could, but she grew more and more overwhelmed by her daughter’s special needs and the looming pile of medical bills. Fearful that her daughter’s conditions may lead to further developmental delays, she knew that she needed professional help beyond what she was capable of handling on her own. She contacted a Feinberg Consulting case manager and expressed her concerns.
The case manager worked quickly to acquire the appropriate benefits, educational support, and medical services that Kate needed. The case manager acquired the proper medical documentation on Kate’s needs, consolidated everything into a single report and brought it to an adjuster. Because the case manager had a deep understanding of the Michigan No-Fault law, she was able to strongly advocate on Kate’s case and the services needed for her developmental success. The adjuster agreed to pay and approve the appropriate services and benefits for Kate.
Kate’s mother is overjoyed that she not only could provide the best care for her daughter now but that she was no longer alone in her daily struggle. She has a case manager backing her every step of the way, while the professionals work towards her daughter’s success and give her every opportunity for a great life.
